The border town is frequented by fuel smugglers and many local families profit by taking part in the smuggling process. Legally bought in Nigeria, the fuel is loaded onto boats which sail to Togo and Benin under the cover of night.  The fuel is then sold at 15-30 percent less than at licensed stations, providing an inexpensive way for motorists to stay on the road.  Photo by Daniel Hayduk
